Princes Tuna Mauritius (PTM) is a leading tuna processing company based in Port Louis, Mauritius. Established in 1999 following the acquisition of Mauritius Tuna Fishing and Canning Enterprises (MTFCE) by the UK-based Princes Group, PTM has grown into one of the most technologically advanced tuna processing operations in the Indian Ocean region.
Princes Tuna Mauritius is now part of the New Princes Group, following the completion of Newlat Food S.p.A's acquisition of Princes Limited in July 2024. This acquisition,encompasses all of Princes' operations, including the Mauritius-based tuna processing facilities. The newly formed group, which also includes Symington’s in the UK, has a turnover of €2.8 billion, a global network of 31 plants, and approximately 8,800 employees across more than 30 brands. The company is in the process of renaming itself to New Princes Group, with the name change expected to be finalized by the end of 2024.
PTM operates two major production sites:
- Riche Terre:Specializes in canned tuna products, processing species like Skipjack, Yellowfin, and Bigeye
- Marine Road:Produces tuna loins, pouches, and jars, handling species such as Skipjack, Albacore, Yellowfin, and Bigey
Together, these facilities have a combined daily processing capacity of approximately 460 metric tons of raw tuna
- Certifications: Both facilities hold SA8000 certification for social accountability and MSC Chain of Custody certification, ensuring responsible sourcing and labor practics.
- Ethical Recruitment: The company employs a significant number of migrant workers, primarily from Bangladesh and India, and has implemented ethical recruitment practices to prevent exploitatin.
- Environmental Initiatives: In partnership with Energie des Mascareignes, PTM is developing a biogas plant to convert waste into energy, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 8,650 metric tons annualy.

Approximately 70% of PTM's products are exported to the UK, with the remainder distributed across Europe

The company’s product portfolio includes several shelf-stable and canned categories, notably canned vegetables, tomato puree, tomato sauce, chilli sauces, jams, fruit spreads and other grocery products marketed for the local market.
The Sunny product catalogue specifically lists canned vegetables such as baked beans in tomato sauce, processed peas, red kidney beans, lentils, white beans and chickpeas.
